Help Desk download was smooth

I downloaded their On-Premises Help Desk software last week. Installation was straightforward after checking the system requirements on their site. It's been working fine for ticket management. The user portal also seems good. Overall, a solid free tool for my small office.

Hey, looking to get into Spiceworks for our small IT team. Is it genuinely free or are there hidden costs for stuff like the help desk or inventory?

P Pradeep Yadav 1 month ago
Yeah, it's really free for the main tools like the help desk and inventory. They make money through ads from vendors, but you don't pay anything to use the software itself.

Totally free! I've been using their help desk for years and never paid a dime. The 'ad-free' thing is more about vendor deals inside the marketplace, not a subscription you pay for. No gotchas, thankfully.

Thinking about switching from ManageEngine to Spiceworks for network monitoring. How does it stack up against competitors like that, or even SolarWinds?

It's decent, especially for the price (free!). Not as fully featured as something like SolarWinds, but for basic monitoring and help desk, it gets the job done. ManageEngine is probably more comparable in scope though.

I've used both Spiceworks and Freshservice. Spiceworks is great for community support and if you're okay with the ad-supported model. For raw power or super advanced features, the others like ServiceNow or SolarWinds probably win, but they're also way more expensive. Spiceworks is a solid free contender to ManageEngine for most SMBs, I think.
